IPA

RB’s Yuki Tsunoda has managed to get a decent start to the 2024 season. The Japanese driver has outperformed his Aussie teammate Daniel Ricciardo so far this year. Tsunoda’s current contract will expire by the end of the 2024 season. Hence, the 23-year-old could look at his options for the upcoming season.

Former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher reflected on other teams who might be interested in acquiring Yuki Tsunoda‘. Schumacher reckoned that Aston Martin was the ‘primarily attractive’ option for the 23-year-old as the constructor will partner with Honda for power units from 2026. Hence, the Japanese carmaker would like to keep its local hero within its F1 efforts.

It is primarily attractive for Honda who meet Aston Martin. They certainly have him on the screen as a Japanese driver if he develops like this. Ralf Schumacher said, as reported by f1-insider.com.

Apart from this, Schumacher was unsure if Tsunoda would be interesting for other non-Red Bull teams on the grid. However, if the 23-year-old continues to showcase such performances, the Japanese driver could potentially join a different team. Additionally, a majority of the drivers’ market would open up by 2025. Hence, time will tell where Yuki Tsunoda is headed for next season, including the possibility of replacing Sergio Perez at Red Bull.

I'm not entirely sure whether he's so interesting outside of Red Bull, but if he continues to perform such services, then yes. Ralf Schumacher noted.

Yuki Tsunoda rejoices over scoring a point at his home race

Yuki Tsunoda reflected upon the Japanese GP and showcased his satisfaction in scoring points at his home race. The Japanese driver pointed out that he was disappointed in the beginning when he lost multiple positions. However, Tsunoda recovered well after the race restart and also applauded the great pitstop from the team.

I would say after I lost a couple of positions in the first start, yeah I felt a bit of disappointment for sure but at the same time I had a great start after that and I think one of the big highlights was the pit stop. Yuki Tsunoda said, as reported by Formula1.com.

The 23-year-old was all praises for the RB crew who helped him score the points. Tsunoda mentioned that it would’ve been difficult to score a point if it weren’t for the quick pit stops from the team. Additionally, the local hero received compliments from friends and family for his thrilling performance.

Our team did a fantastic job, the mechanics were very fast and we overtook two cars, insane! So – without them, without that – it probably would have been a lot more difficult to score a point today so big credit to the team and obviously able to score in front of Japanese fans finally, so very happy. Yuki Tsunoda noted.

Yuki Tsunoda has showcased great form since the season started and hasn’t backed down since. RB crew will continue to facilitate the 23-year-old with great opportunities to score points down the season. Hence, Tsunoda might get a chance to race for a top team next season.
