It’s Tuesday, which means that the Blue Jays’ affiliates played just one game.

We’ll look at that game from the Florida Complex League Blue Jays, as well as setting up the four series for the “A” level affiliates in this article.

Let’s dig in!

FCL Blue Jays won in extra innings

On Monday, the lone game in the Blue Jays organization saw the Florida Complex League Blue Jays defeat the FCL Phillies 6-3 in eight innings.

Enmanuel Bonilla got back on track with two singles after not getting on base for back-to-back games for the first time in his career. Carlos Vasquez also had a multi-hit game, with one double. On top of that, Faruk De La Cruz and Nicolas Deschamps also had doubles. Other players with a hit were Luis Meza, Kendry Chirinos, and Adrian Meza.

Jorge Bautista made his organizational debut, as the 23-year-old posted a line of 4 IP, 4 Hk, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K. In relief was Ryan Chasse, who has transitioned to be a knuckleballer, he gave up two runs (one earned) while walking four and striking out two. Lluveres Severino picked up the win and blown save, finishing with a line of 2.1 IP, 0 ER (1 R), 1 BB, 1 K, maintaining a 0 ERA this season.

Buffalo heads to Rochester

The Buffalo Bisons are on the road to take on the Rochester Red Wings (Washington Nationals). As it stands, Buffalo has a 23-16 record, good enough for third in the International League East division and 4.5 games behind the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, I hate their name with a passion.

This season, Rochester is 17-18, but have a 11-7 home record compared to Buffalo’s 10-8 road record. As of writing this, the Bisons and Red Wings are in a rain delay, with Bowden Francis starting the game for the Bisons.

The player to watch in this series is of course, Orelvis Martinez, who is slashing .277/.362/.569 with an organization-leading 10 home runs. Spencer Horwitz currently leads the International League in doubles with 15 as well.

New Hampshire faces off against Hartford

The 13-19 New Hampshire Fisher Cats head to Hartford to take on the Yard Goats (Colorado Rockies). After a good start to their season, the Fisher Cats are now in the basement of the Eastern League Northeast division, but are just 5.5 games back of the Binghamton Rumble Ponies with five teams to jump over.

New Hampshire’s best hitter this season has been Devonte Brown, who is slashing .312/.373/.473 with three home runs (two inside-the-park homers), but has an elevated 37.3 K%. Josh Kasevich had a tremendous start to his season, but is now slashing .330/.379/.417, which is still pretty darn good, but off the pace he started with.

The Fisher Cats’ starters have been a mixed bag. The best of which is Trenton Wallace, who has a 1.57 ERA and a 3.34 FIP in 28.2 innings pitched. Trent Palmer and CJ Van Eyk have piggybacked with each other all season, with the former having an 8.10 ERA and 4.99 FIP, with the latter having an 8.83 ERA and a 3.94 FIP. Eric Pardinho hasn’t allowed a hit in six consecutive games.

Vancouver plays Spokane for the third time

After a hot start, Spokane (Colorado) has cooled off tremendously, going 3-7 in their last 10 games and is in the midst of a four-game losing streak. On top of that, the division-leading Eugene Emeralds have also gone cold lately with a 3-7 record over their last 10, opening the door for the Vancouver Canadians.

The only Canadian minor league team has a 14-14 record this season, and are just three games behind the Emeralds for the top of the Northwest League division. A series win (4-2 or better) would see them tie Spokane.

Vancouver’s best hitter this season has been far and away Jace Bohrofen, who is slashing .301/.485/.411 for a 174 wRC+. Of note are Brennan Orf and Ryan McCarty, both of whom have a 131 wRC+, while Nick Goodwin and Jackson Hornung each have a 116 wRC+.

The Canadians’ best pitch this season has been Rafael Ohashi, who hasn’t given up an earned run in 14.1 innings pitched, while Ryan Jennings has a 0.43 ERA and a 3.90 FIP in 21 innings as Vancouver’s best starter.

Dunedin hosts Jupiter

The Dunedin Blue Jays started their season 9-3, but have fallen to 14-19 and are eight games back of the Clearwater Threshers and the Lakeland Flying Tigers. Dunedin have been better as of late, as they are 4-6 in their last 10.

Bats have been cold, which essentially explains all of Dunedin’s problems. Victor Arias has been their best player, and is slashing .283/.365/.435 in 104 plate appearances, while Edward Duran is slashing .263/.394/.329 with a 16 BB% and 17 K%. Those are the two players with significant plate appearances who have a wRC+ above 110.

In fact, Blue Jays’ 2023 first-rounder Arjun Nimmala was recently placed on the development list, clearly working on some things. The 18-year-old is slashing .167/.280/.306 with three homers in 125 plate appearances.

Pitching, on the other hand, has been relatively good. Connor O’Halloran leads starters with a 2.63 ERA, the lowest. However, most pitchers with 10 or more innings pitched have an ERA below 4, with only three pitchers having an ERA above 5. One of which is a converted outfielder, Sebastian Espino (who has a 2.66 FIP).
